Iron (0.05%C) hot rolled

Composition: Iron (0.05%C aprox.).
Processing: Hot-rolled.
Etching: 10-15 s immersion in 2% nital.
This specimen is an iron with a small carbon content (0.05%). Therefore, its composition is very close to the monophasic ferrite region. The maximum solubility of C at the eutectoid temperature is 0.025%. This means that the other 0.025% should form iron carbide. Equiaxial ferrite grains predominate in the microstructure with only a few small pearlitic colonies in between them. It is also possible that some C precipitates as cementite within the ferrite grains.
