Ti6Al4V-G
Coarse Widmanstätten
Composition: Ti-6%Al-4%V.
Processing: Annealing (1050ºC - 30 min), Furnace cooling.
Etching: 30-120s immersion in mixture of acids (HCl+HF+HNO3).
The micrographs show a Widmanstätten structure, also known as basket weave, formed by α lamellae that are wider than those observed in the Ti6Al4V-F specimen. The colonies are also larger due to the slow cooling in the furnace allowing time for diffusion and growth. The original β grains are also bigger in this specimen due to the longer annealing time in this case. Similarly to the other specimen, there is oxygen diffusion in the surface and formation of a case layer of α phase.
