Ti6Al4V-R
Equiaxial (Annealing)
Composition: Ti-6%Al-4%V.
Processing: Annealing (955ºC - 1h) and Furnace cooling.
Etching: 30-120s immersion in mixture of acids (HCl+HF+HNO3).
When the as-received specimen (Ti6Al4V-E) is heated up to the α+β field (955ºC) during 1 h, there is grain coarsening (10 μm) of the α phase and coalescence of the β phase. The latter phase shows an angular morphology and is clearly visible in the micrographs at high magnification. This microstructure is known as equiaxial or globular and the simplified diagram shows the sequence of heat treatments that is followed to produce it. As shown, this microstructure can also be obtained by using lower temperatures and longer times during stage III (recrystallization).
