Tutoring and thesis supervision
Enrolment in the doctoral programme grants students the right to academic supervision and use of the resources necessary for them to develop their work. For co-supervised doctoral theses, the corresponding agreement will determine the enrolment process to be followed.
Once admitted to the doctoral programme, the Academic Committe will consider the preferences and research lines chosen by the student before assigning them a tutor. The tutor will be a doctor with accredited experience and a teacher of the doctoral programme. He or she will act as a link between the doctoral student and the Academic Committee. If there are justifiable reasons to do so and if requested by the student, the Academic Committee may change the allocated tutor at any point during the doctoral programme.
Within a maximum of six months after enrolment, the Academic Committee will assign a thesis supervisor to each doctoral student. The supervisor may be, or may not be, the same person as the tutor. The thesis supervisor will have overall responsibility for the coherence and suitability of the student’s academic activities, and their impact and novelty within the subject area of the doctoral thesis.
Complying with the regulations of each University, the thesis supervisor will be a professor or researcher with a doctorate and accredited research experience from one of the seven universities participating in the programme. Doctors from other universities and research institutes may act as co-supervisors.
If the Academic Committee considers that there is sufficient academic justification, such as thematic interdisciplinarity or programmes developed within the framework of national or international collaboration, they may permit the thesis to be co-supervised by several doctors. This authorisation may later be revoked if, in the opinion of the Academic Committee, the co-supervision no longer benefits the development of the thesis.
