Presentation

This doctoral programme aims to deliver highly qualified Late Modern and Contemporary History researchers who are both capable of innovating and advancing knowledge in their field and fully integrated into the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the European Research Area (ERA). Since the 2014-15 academic year, this programme has been adapted to comply with Royal Decree 99/2011 of 28 January, which regulates official doctoral studies. It awards an official doctoral degree (Official Spanish Gazette, 18 March 2015, p. 24.272). The programme is registered in the Registry of Universities, Centres and Titles (RUCT) with code 5600567.

The doctoral programme in Late Modern and Contemporary History is taught jointly at seven universities:

  • Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
  • Universidad de Cantabria
  • Universidad Complutense de Madrid
  • Universidad del País Vasco
  • Universidad de Santiago de Compostela
  • Universitat de València
  • Universidad de Zaragoza

This model enables students to take advantage of a broad spectrum of experiences at the various participating universities and gives them access to a wide range of specialised, high-quality researchers who can introduce them to the current research panorama and supervise doctoral theses across all fields. The degree awarded by the doctoral programme is unique and issued by the university that approves the doctoral thesis. The final degree and all certifications are awarded as a joint doctorate.

The doctoral programme is closely linked to the Master’s Degree in Late Modern and Contemporary History.
