Quality Assurance System

The Internal Quality Assurance Commission (CGIC), responsible for the quality system of the doctoral program, is made up of the members of the Academic Commission and the corresponding student representation from the different universities participating in the doctoral program. The CGIC presidency rotates every two academic years, coinciding with that of the Academic Committee. It meets at least once a year to evaluate the operations of the degree programme during the corresponding academic year. It concentrates on reviewing the programme’s procedures in the following areas:

  1. Access, selection and enrolment.
  2. Tutoring, academic guidance and thesis supervision.
  3. Planning, monitoring and control of academic activities.
  4. Mobility scheme.
  5. Presentation and reading of theses.
  6. Internal and external communication, including public access to information about the doctoral program.
  7. Suggestions and complaints, including the mechanisms for attending to suggestions and complaints from doctoral students.
  8. Performance analysis of the doctoral programme’s defended doctoral theses.
  9. Programme satisfaction analysis.
  10. Termination of the programme.
  11. Evaluation, review and improvements.

The CGIC coordinates with the Doctoral Schools and similar bodies at the participating universities. These bodies will carry out:

  • an annual survey of the doctoral students to identify problems and gauge their satisfaction levels during both academic periods and research periods.
  • an annual survey of tutors and thesis supervisors to diagnose any difficulties and establish proposals for improvements.

The Academic Committee will then use this data to prepare the aforementioned annual report, which will detail the strengths and weaknesses detected, as well as the necessary proposals for improvement, which will be prioritised and scheduled where appropriate.
