KU Leuven (BE)

KU Leuven, in full the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, was founded as a university in 1425 and is located in the region of Flanders in Belgium. It is a research-intensive, internationally oriented university performing both fundamental and applied research. With a strong focus on multidisciplinarity, KU Leuven strives towards international excellence and fosters active international collaboration. The innovative research also feeds academic education which prepares students for their future societal responsibilities.

Within CirCoCreation the following two research groups will be involved:

Research Group Sustainability Assessments of Material Life Cycles (SAM)

Department of Materials Engineering

Idiosynchratic Inventors Collective at Research Unit TRANSFORM

Department of Sociology

Main task in the project:

KU Leuven will take the lead in the overall project management an in WP3 on co-developing new and replicable monitoring tools. This includes the bottom-up gathering and analysis of the information requirements with various stakeholders in the circular construction ecosystem, the translation into design principles, the identification of data sources and testing the replicability potential. KU Leuven will take the lead in the overall project management and in WP3 on gathering the information requirements from bottom-up urban circular initiatives, setting up ensuing data and preparing replicability of the cases and the monitoring frameworks. KU Leuven will also take the lead in T2.3, focusing on elaborating the use case around the Flanders-based Materials Bank. This case will be the initial focal point of the research; replicability will be established by expanding to the other cases later in the project
