REAL TIME READING DISTANCE MEASURE DEVICE
Description |
It is a real time distance measurement system, with a clinical purpose of prevention through postural correction and adequate lighting.
It consists of an optical mount to which one or more LED emitters of IR light are attached to the ends of the optical mount and an image forming detector, located on the bridge of said mount.
How does it work |
Frame: IR LEDs (1), CCD image detector with IR filter (2), start switch (6), resistor for LEDs (3), battery, to power the CCD detector and electronic components (4) and audible warning (5).
The appropriate reading distance is determined by the patient's size. Maintaining the proper distance for a correct posture is difficult. This system measures accurately and instantly corrects the reading distance, making possible the care, treatment and prevention of eye health.
The system is calibrated by determining the distance between the IR lights emitted by the LEDs. Then, using a linear adjustment, the distance between the subject and the detector is calculated.
Through the triangulation principle we can know the working distance of the subject in real time, with the help of mathematical software using digital processing techniques, with which it is possible to analyze the images for an optimal identification.
Once the process of calibrating the system is finished, it is no longer necessary to repeat it. From that moment it is possible to know the distance and other parameters in a simple and intuitive way thanks to the graphical user interface.
When the subject deviates too much from his working distance, he will be notified through a sound or vibration.
Advantages |
• It has a capacity to measure distance and other parameters in real time.
• Allows control over time (for hours, days ...) of the most appropriate distance during reading or work done in close vision
• Detects if the user maintains an abnormal head position or an incorrect visual inclination.
• Simple, lightweight and low cost
• It is a very useful tool to prevent visual dysfunctions due to an inadequate distance in the reading or writing process.
Where has it been developed? |
The design, protected by national patent with previous examination since 2014, and its prototype, have been developed in the Faculty of Optics and Optometry of the UCM.
