Dr. Marta Nadales Ruiz is Senior Lecturer of English Linguistics at the Department of English Studies at Complutense University of Madrid. She defended her Doctoral Thesis in English Linguistics in 2008. Her dissertation on the linguistic construction of British identity in the texts of nineteenth century Spanish travellers was awarded the Outstanding PhD Award in 2009. In 2010 she obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the British Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities to conduct a research project in the Centre for Transnational and Transcultural Research in the UK on the material construction of British identity in the 19th century. Her research work focuses on the linguistic construction of identity, critical discourse analysis and cultural linguistics. She has participated in both national and international competitive research projects (FemChildLing, DEPS, NORMAGE, ALTERAE, EDICC) and UCM research groups (Cognitive Linguistics: Socio-Cultural and Contrastive Studies- LCUCM; Translation, AVT and Accesibility – TRADAVAL). She has also been a member of the steering committee of several international Conferences and Seminars (We speak your language; FOOD3; AELCO; UPCEL). Dr. Nadales has been a faculty member of the department of English Studies since 2004, where she teaches different English Language and Linguistics subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She supervises End of Degree, Master's and PhD dissertations on topics related to English Linguistics, Cultural Linguistics, Language and Identity, and Audiovisual Translation. She is currently a member of SEPIE (Spanish Agency for the Internationalisation of Education) and the Associate Editor for Linguistics of Complutense Journal of English Studies.
