Description of Funds
The Numismatic Collection currently consists of 1704 pieces dated from 5th Century to the present day. The largest part corresponds to classical antiquity material (686 pieces). There are also a collection of 77 ancient coins from medieval period and 536 coins from modern and contemporary period. The Collection is completed with 50 pieces consisting of some medals, prints and a lead seal. It is worth mentioning the existence of 355 unusable pieces “Frustra” as well as some special pieces such as a tetradrachm of Athens, a Visigoth Triente and a few silver coins from Castilian modern age.
The history of the collection
The history of most of the pieces is unknown; however, It is worth mentioning the acquisition of 96 pieces in the last few years.
