Este curso proporciona una visión general de la gramática del inglés, desde el morfema hasta el sintagma. Se presta especial atención a las clases de palabras y la estructura de los diferentes sintagmas. Asimismo, se ofrece una breve caracterización de la complementación del verbo y los sistemas de tiempo, aspecto y modalidad.

This course is intended to give an overview of English grammar, from the morpheme to the phrase. Special attention is paid to the parts of speech (classes of words) and the structure of the different phrases. The course also offers a brief account of verb complementation and the systems of tense, aspect and modality.

Ofrecer una perspectiva general de la gramática del inglés, desde el nivel del morfema al del sintagma.

Proporcionar las herramientas para un análisis sintáctico de la palabra y el sintagma, desde un punto de vista estructural y funcional.

Dar una introducción a los fenómenos sintácticos esenciales a este nivel, como los sistemas de tiempo, aspecto y modalidad, una clasificación de combinaciones de verbos y los principios básicos de la complementación.

Se espera que el/la estudiante se haga consciente de la variedad y complejidad de la sintaxis del inglés al nivel del sintagma. 

Con todo ello se pretende fomentar una mayor consciencia de la forma y el orden estructural de la lengua inglesa y capacitar al/a la estudiante en la monitorización de su propia producción lingüística, así como acercarle a las posibles aplicaciones de la sintaxis a la enseñanza-aprendizaje del inglés.

To give an overview of English grammar, from the level of the morpheme to that of the phrase.

To provide the student with the tools for a syntactic analysis of the word and the phrase, from a structural and functional perspective.

To give an introduction to essential syntactic phenomena at this level, such as the sytems of tense, aspect and modality, classification of verb combinations and the basics of complementation.

For the student to become aware of the variety and complexity of English syntax at the level of the phrase.

In sum, the student is expected to become more conscious of the form and structural order of the English language and acquire a better understanding of his/her own linguistic production, with a possible application to the teaching-learning of the language.
