This course studies significant themes and movements of US Poetry and Poetics after 1950. The course aims to analyze the continuity of modernist experimentation (or absence thereof) in contemporary US poetry. The course offers strategies for critical reading which helps understand the transition from the lyrical self of traditional, formalist poetry to the multifaceted and fractured poetic voice in the manifestations of the recent avant garde.
