STRUCTURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TEACHING STAFF

The professors involved in the PhD Programme belong to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology headquarters (Faculty of Chemical Sciences) or to one of the four Departmental Sections. The professors are PhDs with extensive research experience; they belong to different stable research groups.

The PDI associated with the Program is currently made up of 65 Doctors with permanent links to UCM. It has an excellent academic qualification, with around 35% of university full professors and almost 80% of civil servant professors. The quality indexes of the PDI involved in the last three years show more than 250 sexennials, with a sexennial/professor ratio close to 4; professors participate in more than 70 research projects and are involved in the supervision of around 80-100 theses.

DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH TEAMS

The existing research lines and research groups in the Department have been adapting towards a multidisciplinary approach and in the search for synergies that improve infrastructure, access to funding and, of course, scientific performance, essential today in our areas of knowledge. Therefore, a restructuring of both the research teams and the lines of research has been carried out, more in line with the current situation, but still supporting those described in the Memoria Verifica, ensuring the proper functioning of the Degree.

The professors involved in the Program cover all the lines of research associated (see link) to the Doctoral Program, ensuring the coverage of the theses developed in the program. Currently, theses are being developed in all research lines.
The current research teams, which include all the PDI referents of the Program are based on UCM research groups, and therefore consolidated or newly created groups with proven quality (Research Teams).

COMPUTATIONAL MECHANISMS LABOR TUTORING AND DIRECTION OF DOCTORAL THESES

The Academic Committee of the Program is responsible for the assignment of tutors and directors associated with the doctoral thesis of doctoral students. The criteria and procedures for the assignment, substitution and incorporation of tutors and directors are included in the following documents:

  • Tutor Assignment Procedure
  • Procedure for assigning a supervisor

The Academic Committee is also responsible for keeping a record of the number of tutors and directors associated with the Program. This information is obtained through internal control, data obtained from SIDI and data provided by the secretariats of the faculties involved.

The Academic Committee oversees the correct development of the tutoring and direction work through the reports that tutors and directors must send:

  • In the annual Evaluation of Monitoring of the Activities Document and Research Plan of the doctoral students.
  • In the control of the training activities and research plan uploaded to RAPI2.
  • In the certification of the teaching of the Pre-Thesis Seminar
  • In the Thesis deposit

Finally, the Academic Committee, through the satisfaction surveys conducted by the Quality Office, as well as those conducted internally, monitors the degree of satisfaction and involvement of the tutors and directors of the Doctoral Program.
