Juan Luis Paris successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Ultrasound-Responsive Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications"
In this thesis, different approaches to drug delivery systems were studied:
- Drug release induced by ultrasound through mesoporous silica nanoparticles coated with thermo- and ultrasound-sensitive polymers.
- Ultrasound-enhanced nanoparticle uptake by cancer cells through the removal of a polyethylene glycol shield anchored to mesoporous silica nanoparticles.
- Cavitation-enhanced accumulation and penetration of nanoparticles in tumor tissue by combining mesoporous silica nanoparticles with gas-stabilizing polymeric particles.
- Cellular transport of mesoporous silica nanoparticles towards tumors employing placental mesenchymal stem cells as carriers of the nanoparticles.
