  • 7 December 2023. Boletín del IMI. Haïm Brezis, premio Steel 2024 de la AMS.


  • 27 November 2023. Four IMI members and four members of its Scientific Committee are in the lists of the most highly cited scientists worldwide, published by Stanford University.  The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field. The four IMI members mentioned are Juan Luis Vázquez Suárez, Julián López-Gómez, Jesús Ildefonso Díaz Díaz and Francisco Javier Montero de Juan. Also appearing in the same lists are IMI Scientific Committee members Paul Rabinowitz, Simon Donaldson, Herbert Amann and Dikran Dikranjan.
     

  • 23 November 2023. The Complutense University of Madrid published the list of approved applications for the ‘UCM 2022 Call for Research Project Financing Grants’. One of these grants was awarded to the Interdisciplinary Mathematics Institute (IMI). Nirian Martín, a member of the IMI, is the principal investigator of the corresponding project entitled ‘Robust Statistical Inference Based on Distances for Mixed Linear Models’. Furthermore, José María Maroto, member of the IMI, is the principal investigator of the project entitled ‘Bioeconomic models of dynamic optimization, population dynamics and data assimilation techniques for sustainable fisheries management: transition dynamics', which has also been approved in the same call.

  • 26 de octubre de 2023. Contrato predoctoral para trabajar en proyecto de investigación en el área de Bioestadística.

    El grupo de investigación Bioestadística de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid está buscando estudiantes de doctorado para incorporarlos al proyecto de investigación Métodos estadísticos y computacionales en investigación clínica (PID2022-137050NB-I00) mediante un contrato predoctoral.

    El plazo de solicitudes para la convocatoria de contratos predoctorales termina el 7 de noviembre.

  • 3 October 2023. A contract between UCM and The World Bank led by IMI member Isabel Molina Peralta has been signed and it is now underway. The contract, entitled “Literature Review/Research Agenda”, aims to write a literature review on small area estimation of welfare, useful for the WB research agenda for the next 3-5 years.

  • 29 September 2023. Special Volume on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Prof. José M.R, Sanjurjo. This special volume has been prepared in honour of José Manuel R. Sanjurjo (member of IMI) and published in Topology and its Applications as Vol 339, Part A, November 2023 (now online), with Héctor Barge (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), Jerzy Dydak (University of Tennessee), Francisco R. Ruiz del Portal (member of IMI) and J.J. Sánchez-Gabites (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) as guest editors. Congratulations José Manuel!

  • 21 de septiembre de 2023. Solar News. Diseñando el futuro de la energía solar. La importancia del espectro lumínico en la optimización de paneles solares (véanse las páginas 24-26 de este link). Artículo sobre un trabajo realizado por Benjamin Ivorra (IMI) en colaboración con otros investigadores de la Universidad de Málaga, de la Universidad de Almería, de la Universidad de Antofagasta y de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.

  • 10 July 2023. Alicja Barbara Kubik Gladys (PhD student supervised by B. Ivorra and A.M. Ramos; all three IMI members) and Paula Terán Viadero (PhD student under supervision by F. J. Martín Campo, IMI member, and by A. Alonso Ayuso, URJC member) have been awarded two of the four second prices granted by the Jornada PhDay jury, which took place on 3 July 2023, in the Facultad de Ciencias Matemáticas of the UCM. The two first prices went to Pablo Hidalgo Palencia and Guillermo Sánchez Arellano, while the two other second prices were awarded to Joaquín Domínguez de Tena and Joao Gabriel Gomes de Oliveira.  Congratulations to the six of you!

  • 29 June 2023. After the seminar given by J. Ildefonso Díaz, in tribute to Sixto J. Álvarez (IMI member recently retired), the attendees took a souvenir photo and then we had a nice lunch together, sharing a good time of laughter and anecdotes.

 

  • 28 June 2023. A contract between UCM and Tragsatec led by IMI member Juan Tinguaro Rodríguez González has been signed and it is now underway. The contract, entitled “Análisis de datos y estadística para llevar a cabo la definición de la estratificación y su ajuste tras el proceso de datos del INES, basándose en los resultados del INES 2019-2021 anterior”, aims to update different aspects of the statistical and data analysis methodology underlying Spain’s Soil Erosian National Inventory (INES) studies to be carried out in the next years, particularly focusing on the exploitation of data from the previous INES through predictive models to deliver nation-wide erosion maps. The contract team also includes IMI members Begoña Vitoriano Villanueva and Bibiana Granda Chico, with the external support of Ángela Cisneros Pascual through her internship in Tragasatec.

  • 20 June 2023. (update of the news item on the same subject dated 9 June 2023). in addition to the three projects mentioned in the IMI news given on 9 June 2023 about the INNOVA projects, the Complutense University of Madrid approves another INNOVA-TEACHING project, with the title "Teaching statistical methods of estimation in the virtual environment Moodle from solved exercises", led by María Jaenada Malágón.

 

  • 9 June 2023.The Complutense University of Madrid approves three innovation projects led by IMI members. These are two INNOVA-QUALITY MANAGEMENT projects ("Project for the control and monitoring of the quality of the scientific production of the IMI" and "Development of a rubric for the evaluation by tutors and tribunals of TFG and TFM", led by Ángel Manuel Ramos del Olmo and Juan Antonio Infante del Río, respectively) and one INNOVA-TEACHING project ("Interdisciplinary Mathematics, building professional transitions", led by Inés M. Gómez-Chacón ).

  • 7 June 2023. Maria Jaenada, member of IMI, and PhD student of Professors N. Balakrishnan and L. Pardo has received the "Best Young Statistician Award", from the Greek Statistical Society, during the thirty-fifth congress of the said society for the paper "Step-stress test experiments under interval censored data with lognormal lifetime distribution" held at the West Atica University of Athens from May 25 to 28 of this month of May.

  • 26 May 2023. Available online the manuscript written by Prof. Per H. Enflo (Kent State University, USA) in which, as announced yesterday exclusively in Boletín del IMI Nº91 (see https://doi.org/10.57037/b-imi.00091) is intended to give a definitive answer to the invariant subspace problem in Hilbert spaces. The title of the manuscript is "ON THE INVARIANT SUBSPACE PROBLEM IN HILBERT SPACES" and can be found at https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.15442 and at https://perenflo.com.

  • 5 May 2023. Granting of a Thematic Network on Multicriteria Decision Making coordinated by IMI

    In the 2022 call for Research Networks of the Spanish Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación), the Thematic Network on Multicriteria Decision Making (Red Temática en Decisión Multicriterio) has been awarded, with IMI being the center coordinating it. The Network is structured into 10 groups, each of which integrates various nodes of the Spanish Multicriteria Decision Making Group (Grupo Español de Decisión Multicriterio), whose principal investigators are: Begoña Vitoriano (IMI, Network Coordinator), Antonio Jiménez (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), Amelia Bilbao (Universidad de Oviedo), Inés Couso (Universidad de Oviedo), Amparo Mármol (Universidad de Sevilla), Herminia Calvete (Universidad de Zaragoza), Francisco Ruiz de la Rúa (Universidad de Málaga), José María Moreno (Universidad de Zaragoza), Ana García Bernabéu (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia) and José Antonio Gómez-Limón (Universidad de Córdoba).

  • 3 de mayo de 2023. Unidad de Cultura Científica - UCM. El espectro de la luz, clave para optimizar la instalación de placas solares. Un estudio llevado a cabo por varios grupos de investigación de España y Chile, entre los que se encuentra el grupo MOMAT del Instituto de Matemática Interdisciplinar (IMI), muestra la importancia de tener en cuenta el espectro de la luz de la zona de instalación a la hora de diseñar placas solares, para aumentar su eficiencia. Nos lo cuenta Benjamin Ivorra (miembro del Grupo MOMAT, del IMI), junto con otros autores del trabajo de la Universidad de Málaga, de la Universidad de Almería, de la Universidad de Antofagasta y de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.

  • DÍA INTERNACIONAL DE LAS MATEMÁTICAS 2023. 

     

     

         MATEMÁTICAS PARA TODO EL MUNDO.

El 14 de marzo de 2023 se celebra una nueva edición del Día Internacional de las Matemáticas cuyo lema es “Matemáticas para todo el mundo”, para lo que se han convocado distintos concursos como son cómic para el alumnado de Educación primaria, relatos para el alumnado de Educación Secundaria y vídeos para Bachillerato, además del concurso de material didáctico para el profesorado de cualquier nivel educativo. Las bases, plazos para el envío, así como el formulario para su envío están disponibles en la web http://idm314.es/. Estas actividades están convocadas por la Comisión de Educación del Comité Español de Matemáticas (CEMat). La entrega de los premios de los distintos concursos se realizará en un acto el día 14 de marzo que está organizado por la Sociedad de Estadística e Investigación Operativa con la colaboración del Instituto de Matemática Interdisciplinar (IMI). Además, en la semana previa se   realizará de manera online un programa de talleres y conferencias que se anunciará a través de dicha web.
