1) A Message from the IMI Director

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to begin by informing you of the sad news of the passing of Prof. Haïm Brezis. It is a great loss for the mathematical community in general and for all of us who have learned so much from his work, in particular. Below you can read the note written by our colleagues J. Ildefonso Díaz and Juan Luis Vázquez.

On the other hand, it is a pleasure to introduce you to a new member of IMI, Marina Logares Jiménez. She is an Associate Professor from the Department of Algebra, Geometry and Topology, and a researcher on algebraic and complex geometry, algebraic topology and mathematical physics. Welcome Marina!

Moreover, holidays are at the turn of the corner, and so is the time of rest. Therefore, we interrupt the publication of Boletín del IMI until September, when we will return with new issues carrying all the news for the new academic year.

Happy holidays!

Ángel Manuel Ramos del Olmo
