1) Noticias IMI
29 September 2023. Special Volume on the occasion ot the 70th birthday of Prof. José M.R, Sanjurjo. This special volume has been prepared in honour of José Manuel R. Sanjurjo (member of IMI) and published in Topology and its Applications as Vol 339, Part A, November 2023 (now online), with Héctor Barge (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), Jerzy Dydak (University of Tennessee), Francisco R. Ruiz del Portal (member of IMI) and J.J. Sánchez-Gabites (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) as guest editors. Congratulations José Manuel!
3 October 2023. A contract between UCM and The World Bank led by IMI member Isabel Molina Peralta has been signed and it is now underway. The contract, entitled “Literature Review/Research Agenda”, aims to write a literature review on small area estimation of welfare, useful for the WB research agenda for the next 3-5 years.

6) Math Puzzle
Solution to last week's Math Puzzle, sent by Rik Tangerman and published on issue No. 102 of the Boletín del IMI:
Solution
The blue fraction is 1-√3/2, which is approximately 13%.
Now this makes the blue triangle HID a 30-60-90 triangle with known proportions. Setting the side of the small square to 1, the size of the large square side is readily seen to be (1+√3)/2. The blue area is √3/6 and the total area is 1+2√3/3, giving rise to the desired fraction.
