Abstract:

This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of major social welfare programs in two Southern European countries, with a focus on key dimensions of inequality. The research examines how social policies impact individuals and households across various income levels, particularly those with differing wage and salary earnings, and how these policies may either mitigate or reinforce disparities. By analyzing the redistributive effects of welfare programs, the study explores their role in promoting income equality, social protection, and fairness. Differences in policy design and implementation are highlighted to offer insights into the effectiveness of these systems in addressing socioeconomic disparities. Additionally, the study identifies potential gaps or imbalances in how individuals with different income profiles are supported in Portugal and Spain, comparing these findings to other European welfare states. The research ultimately contributes to a deeper understanding of the effectiveness and equity of welfare programs in addressing inequality and promoting social justice in Southern Europe.
