Abstract:
Voting for Radical Right (RR) parties in Europe has been a frequent subject of study. Many social researchers approach the study of RR parties by looking at factors such as economic anxiety, cultural reaction or political and institutional disaffection. However, underexplored factors of an anti-democratic nature may also explain this trend. The aim of this research is to analyse the link between anti-democratic attitudes and sentiments resonating among voters and electoral support for the RR in Europe. The methodology of this research, which will be based on the use and analysis of empirical evidence, will be based on a comparative perspective. The study uses the 10th round of the European Social Survey. Through the development of a multilevel logistic regression analysis, it explores how economic vulnerability, demographic anxiety and concerns about national sovereignty contribute to the attractiveness of RR parties. The study also assesses the role of interpersonal trust, opposition to progressive values and anti-elitism, highlighting how disillusionment with mainstream parties creates fertile ground for RR parties' narratives. In addition, key psychological factors, such as loyalty to charismatic leaders and susceptibility to conspiracy theories, are also analysed alongside scientific and intellectual denialism. In addition, the research assesses how internet use amplifies these factors, serving as a conduit for political mobilisation and information dissemination. By identifying these political demand factors, this study provides insight into the electorate's alignment with the RR and its implications for democratic stability.
