Blechnáceas es una familia de tamaño medio, con unas 240 especies, de distribución cosmopolita, pero claramente centrada en las zonas intertropicales, con un grueso de la diversidad de apetencias australes.

La clasificación actual propone el reconocimiento de 24 géneros, la mayoría de cuyas especies han estado hasta hace poco tiempo subordinadas a Blechnum.

Nuestros objetivos son la búsqueda de caracteres taxonómicos consistentes, la revisión taxonómica de géneros y los estudios de naturaleza filogenética y evolutiva, para aumentar el conocimiento de la sistemática de la familia.

 

Blechnaceae is a medium-sized family, with about 240 species. It is distributed worldwide, but clearly centered in the intertropical latitudes and with the bulk of the diversity showing austral apetences.

The currently accepted classification proposes the recognition of 25 genera, most of which have been subordinate to Blechnum until recently.

Our main objectives are the search of consistent taxonomic characteres, the taxonomic review of the genera, and the phylogenetic and evolutionary studies, all devoted to increase the knowlegde of the systematics of the family.
