Lomaridium es un género de plantas hemiepífitas, raramente son epífitas o terrestres. Comprende unas 15 especies con distribución en zonas tropicales y subtropicales, con dos grandes centros de diversidad, uno en América central y del sur, y otro en África y Madagascar.

Como muchos de los géneros de Blechnaceae, Lomaridium no está exento de problemas taxonómicos. En esta investigación tratamos de: a) aclarar problemas nomenclaturales, específicamente con el supuesto tipo de género, L. plumieri; b) buscar caracteres morfológicos y anatómicos que informen sobre una clasificación infragenérica natural; c) realizar un análisis filogenético completo, dado que algunas especies todavía no han sido estudiadas en este sentido; d) estudiar los patrones biogeográficos de dispersión y especiación.

 Lomaridium is a genus of hemiepiphytic plants, rarely epiphytic or terrestrial. It comprises about 15 species, distributed in tropical and subtropical areas, with two large biodiversity spots, one in Central and South America and another in Africa/Madagascar.

Like most of the genera in the Blechnaceae, Lomaridium is not free of taxonomic problems. In this research we aim to: a) clarify nomenclatural issues, specifically with the allegued type of the genus, L. plumieri; b) search morphological and anatomical traits to support a infrageneric natural classification; c) propose a global, complete phylogenetic hypothesis, as some species have never been studied in this sense; d) study the pattern of biogeographical dispersion and speciation.
