My Museum of Veterinary Histology
Welcome to the little museum of virtual histology slides
In our galleries you will be able to wander around tissues and cells from the main organ systems of domestic animals, without the need of a microscope or objectives. You will be able to examine and learn more about animal histology without limited time.
Plunge into a microscopic world of harmony and color!
This website holds a collection of histologic images from the organs and tissues students use in the microscope lab for practical seminars and lectures of Veterinary Histology. In the microscope lab students access a selection of glass histologic slides that complement the theoretical lectures and enable the student to relate structural and morphologic concepts, often difficult to visualize, with the actual tissues. Within these galleries we have recreated the atmosphere of the microscope lab, using captures from scanned histologic slides and digital photographs, so that visitors are able to examine these histologic specimens without restrictions of time and space.
Each section is accompanied by a brief explanation of the organ system and description of the tissues. The visitor will also be able to interact with different images to find certain structures or to get a closer look.
This website was created and translated as part of two Projects for the Innovation and Quality Improvement of Teaching (nº 266/2014 and nº 263/2015).
IMAGE OF THE MONTH
The image of the month is a section of mandible from a leafy sea dragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) with part of a gill arch (right) and oral cavity mucosa (left). Leafy sea dragons breathe through their gills. In this case, part of the gill arches and the oral mucosa have been invaded by pigmented fungal hyphae, with tropism for blood vessels.
Search the image to find the inflamed mucosa, and get a closer look of the fungal agents and damage they are causing.
