SINOPSIS

COMPETENCIAS

Generales
Identify the basic principles of Cultural Heritage, its management and its research, especially in the European context
Analyze the different management models and tools used in the treatment of cultural properties with a critical and proactive orientation
Distinguish between the different types of specific Heritage, especially movable, immovable and intangible, applying the appropriate management and research models for each of them.
Contextualize cultural heritage management joint and integral manner the rest of European values and interests, specially from cultural, social economic and environmental values.
Transversales
Analyze and synthesize the available information and/or the results obtained, in a research work, in the area covered here.
Develop the process marked by the scientific method in the approach and execution of various research and/or professional work, promoting a critical spirit.
Develop a permanent capacity for ethical commitment and respect, regarding the well-being of citizens and the environment.
Respect and show adequate attitude concerning the diversity and gender with an inclusive and intersectional perspective in the study and works with the topics of the subject and between students and professor
Específicas
Organize and plan appropriate management systems for Cultural Heritage in each of its specialties from people focus approach
Adequately analyze the bibliography and compile references around Cultural Heritage management and research.
Distinguish what have been the consequences for Cultural Heritage of the succession of concepts and regulations over the last two centuries in Europe.
Design basic social tools applicable to Cultural Heritage Management

Breve descriptor:

This subject is a first approach to one of the main European values: its cultural heritage.

From a critical-constructive perspective, students will acquire basic notions about the concept of cultural heritage and its treatment, as well as management strategies to ensure its knowledge, protection, conservation, safeguarding, dissemination and enjoyment. The focus will be on the current challenges of wealth management in Europe and on a person-based approach.

Requisitos

Sensibility with culture and heritage in Europe. Empathy with knowledge, protection, safeguarding and dissemination of this kind of heritage from people focus approach. Good attitude and interest in learning

Objetivos

1. To raise interest among students for researching into the nature of Cultural Heritage and its management.

2. To ensure that cultural properties reach an appropriate treatment by the society through the students ‘future work.

3. To understand the different management activities and strategies for

cultural heritage used throughout Europe’s varied

countries to develop critical stances towards these systems, while proposing improvements

 

Contenido

1. The concept of Cultural Heritage: its history, implication of

European policies in its management (European Union, Council of

Europe). Critical perspective in heritage studies.

2. Types of Cultural Heritage: intangible and tangible properties/goods/assets.

3. Managing Cultural Heritage and their activities: knowledge,

planning, enforcement, dissemination and assessment. From museums to sites and intangible heritage.

4.The relationship between cultural properties and the environment:

Europe’s public policies. Environmental assessments, “natural” parks.

4. Safe and Cultural Heritage: commerce and exportation,

Looting. Risk and emergency management.

5. Social Dimension of Cultural Heritage: vulnerability, genre, the phenomenon of

depopulation and immigration. Mass media, education and participation.

6. The tourist phenomenon: cultural tourism, socioeconomic impact, gentrification.

 

Most of the classes supposes the use examples of case studies of European context. The students will make work field with a specific case of study of Madrid: “plaza de Mayor”
