Las competencias generales de la materia en la que está integrada esta asignatura (Descripción y análisis de la lengua inglesa) están orientadas a profundizar en el estudio y análisis de las distintas sub-disciplinas de la lingüística sincrónica inglesa.
Tras el período de aprendizaje, los estudiantes deberán ser capaces de:
- Aplicar los conocimientos teóricos adquiridos a la realización de tareas de diversa índole.
- Tener una actitud reflexiva y crítica sobre la lengua inglesa y valorar los diversos tipos de discurso inglés hablado y escrito referentes a distintos niveles como son la pronunciación y entonación, sintaxis, léxico, coherencia y adecuación al propósito comunicativo.
Conceptuales: Conocimiento de las disciplinas del campo de la lengua inglesa.
Procedimentales: Capacidad para comprender e integrar información procedente de diversas fuentes, y encuadrarla en distintas perspectivas teóricas.
Actitudinales: Desarrollo de una actitud reflexiva y crítica sobre la lengua inglesa.
This subject falls under Description and Analysis of the English Language. The aim of this category of subjects is to deepen the study and analysis of the different sub-disciplines of English synchronic linguistics.
After the learning period, students should be able to:
- Apply the theoretical knowledge acquired to the performance of different kinds of tasks.
- Acquire a reflective and critical attitude towards the English language and assess the different types of spoken and written English discourse at different levels such as pronunciation and intonation, syntax, lexicon, coherence and adequacy for specific communicative purposes.

Procedures: Ability to understand and integrate information from a variety of sources and frame it in different theoretical perspectives
Attitude: Development of a reflective and critical attitude towards the English language

Se pretende que el estudiante se familiarice y logre identificar las distintas variedades que presenta la lengua inglesa, que sepa relacionarlas con factores como la situación comunicativa o rasgos de la identidad social del hablante y que conozca los rasgos que caracterizan a estas variedades en los distintos niveles de la lengua (vocabulario, pronunciación, gramática).

On successful completion of this course, the student will become familiar with and be able to identify the different varieties of the English language, in order to learn how to relate them to factors such as the communicative situation or features of the speaker’s social identity, and to get to know the features that characterize these varieties at different linguistic levels (vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar).

Conceptos fundamentales: Lengua, dialecto y acento. Variedades normativas y variedades vernáculas. Factores responsables de la variedad. El inglés como lengua nativa, como segunda lengua y como lengua extranjera.

Se prevé la evaluación continua del alumno (entre un 30% y un 70% de la calificación final) a través del seguimiento semanal de su trabajo práctico en el aula, la entrega de trabajos escritos y/o presentaciones orales, además un examen teórico-práctico final (entre un 30% y un 70% de la calificación final).
