CE 29 (Módulo de Profundización en Literatura en Lengua Inglesa, Materia principal 20). [Ficción Contemporánea en los Estados Unidos; Ficción Contemporánea en Gran Bretaña]. El alumno deberá ser capaz de identificar y analizar los elementos estéticos que caracterizan la ficción en el postmodernismo anglonorteamericano, y de emitir juicios críticos sobre los textos narrativos, así como sobre la relación de éstos con el presente contexto sociocultural.
CE 29 - (Module of In-depth study of Literature in English, Core Subject 20) [Contemporary Fiction in the United States; Contemporary Fiction in Great Britain].
The student will be able to identify and analyze the aesthetic elements characterizing Anglo-American postmodernist fiction, and to express critical judgments on the narrative texts discussed, as well as on their relation with the current socio-cultural context.

La metodología docente podrá incluir las siguientes estrategias:
1. Lecciones magistrales que presenten panoramas generales sobre la asignatura.
2. Lectura individual guiada de textos representativos.


The teaching methodology may include the following strategies:
1. Magisterial lessons that present general panoramas about the subject.
2. Guided individual reading of representative texts.

Grupos de debate y puesta en común de la información adquirida en los puntos anteriores. Estos grupos de debate contarán con la tutela y la dirección de un profesor. El trabajo y la participación activa del alumno en estos grupos será reflejado en la evaluación.
Películas y documentales que ayuden a conseguir los objetivos prácticos descritos arriba. El departamento entiende que estas actividades deben fomentar una apreciación crítica, por lo que dichos visionados se complementarán, en cualquier caso, con foros de debate y discusión.
Visitas culturales guiadas. Las visitas culturales deberán tener reflejo en un trabajo práctico del alumno que demuestre la formación de su espíritu crítico con relación a dichas visitas.
Debate groups and sharing of the information acquired in the previous points. These discussion groups will have the tutelage and direction of a teacher. The work and the active participation of the student in these groups will be reflected in the evaluation.
Films and documentaries that help achieve the practical objectives described above. The department understands that these activities should encourage a critical appreciation, so that these views will be complemented, in any case, with discussion and discussion forums.
Guided cultural visits. Cultural visits should be reflected in a practical work of the student that demonstrates the formation of his critical spirit in relation to these visits.

Estudio de la continuación del experimento modernista en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. La asignatura abordará el estudio de los escritores surgidos en Gran Bretaña desde 1950 en adelante, analizando la relación de su obra con el movimiento inmediatamente anterior —modernismo— así como con su papel en el canon global de la tradición británica. Por último, se prestará especial atención a la interacción entre la ficción contemporánea inglesa y otras manifestaciones culturales propias de la postmodernidad. 

Study of the continuation of the modernist experiment in the second half of the 20th century. The subject will deal with the study of writers that emerged in Great Britain from 1950 onwards, analyzing the relation of their work with the movement immediately before -modernism- as well as with its role in the global canon of the British tradition. Finally, special attention will be paid to the interaction between English contemporary fiction and other cultural manifestations of postmodernity.

El alumno deberá conocer los autores de ficción más representativos surgidos en Gran Bretaña en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, así como familiarizarse con las estrategias literarias empleadas por dichos autores para poder así abordar análisis críticos de los textos que estudia la asignatura. Así mismo, el alumno deberá entender la posición global de estos autores en el canon de la tradición literaria británica, comprendiendo, de manera crítica, las relaciones (ruptura, continuidad) de aquellos autores con dicho canon. El alumno, por último, deberá familiarizarse con los distintos marcos teóricos que han tratado el ámbito de la ficción británica en el marco de la postmodernidad.

The student must know the most representative authors of fiction emerged in Britain in the second half of the twentieth century, as well as familiarize themselves with the literary strategies used by these authors to be able to address critical analysis of the texts studied by the subject. Likewise, the student must understand the global position of these authors in the canon of the British literary tradition, understanding, in a critical way, the relationships (rupture, continuity) of those authors with this canon. The student, finally, should familiarize himself with the different theoretical frameworks that have dealt with the field of British fiction within the framework of postmodernism

Los años cincuenta. Realismo social en el contexto de postguerra. Utopía y distopía. Primeras manifestaciones experimentales.
Los años sesenta. Ruptura y experimentación en el contexto de la postmodernidad (I). Renovación y Transgresión formal.
Los años setenta. Ruptura y experimentación en el contexto de la postmodernidad (II). Cuestiones de raza, género e ideología.
Los años ochenta. La narrativa en la era Thatcher. Revisionismo experimental e influencia de la narrativa postcolonial.
Los años noventa. ¿Hacia un nuevo Fin-de-siècle? La narrativa en el contexto del «fin de la historia» y la inquietud del nuevo milenio.
La ansiedad del milenio. La literatura después del 9/11.
Panorama de la novela popular y la ficción de género en el Reino Unido. 

La evaluación tendrá carácter continuo. La calificación final se establecerá según la media ponderada de tres parámetros, a saber: seguimiento semanal del trabajo individual del alumno (valor relativo entre 10% y 20% de la calificación final), evaluación ensayos escritos por el alumno (valor relativo entre 30% y 40% de la calificación final) y examen final de cada asignatura (entre un 50% y un 70% de la calificación final).

The evaluation will be continuous. The final grade will be established according to the weighted average of three parameters, namely:
Weekly follow-up of the student's individual work: 15% participation, 15% attendance (30% of the final grade)
Oral presentation and essay (20% to 40% of the final grade)
Final exam or Final work (50% to 70% of the final grade)
