Recommendations to bind the PhD thesis
Format
The copy of the thesis must be presented in A4 bound in paper, pasteboard, leather, cardboard or any other similar material. Copies bound in plastic comb or similar are not advisable since this could harm its preservation.
Mandatory rules
Front cover of the paper copy of the thesis
The front cover of the copy of the thesis must include:
- The centre in which it is presented.
- The seal of the UCM.
- The title of the thesis in Spanish and in another language (if its presentation in another language has been authorised).
- Name and surnames of the PhD candidate.
- Name and surnames of the director or directors.
Names must be complete, abbreviations will not be accepted. If the thesis has more than one volume, the corresponding numbering must be added to each of them.
Content of the paper copy of the thesis
Regarding the content, the following must appear first:
- A thesis cover sheet.
- A Declaration of authorship and originality of the thesis presented to obtain the degree of Doctor signed by the PhD candidate.
- Preceding pages of acknowledgements and dedications.
- A table of contents including the titles of the chapters, conclusions, bibliography and annexes, as well as, if any, of the tables, illustrations, abbreviations, symbols, etc.
- A summary in English and Spanish (and, where appropriate, in the language in which it is submitted if other than English), which must be listed in the table of contents and may be incorporated at the beginning or end.
Content of the electronic copy of the thesis
The copy of the thesis in PDF format must be submitted on a CD.
In the PDF, the following must appear first:
- A completed pre-front cover form.
Next, the PDF must include the content of the paper copy of the thesis including the declaration of authorship and originality.
The CD must be duly identified with a type-written cover (not handwritten), indicating:
- The centre in which it is presented.
- The title of the thesis
- Name and surnames of the PhD candidate.
The CD must be submitted in its case. Envelopes or other kinds of container that do not ensure protection of the CD will not be accepted.
