Objetives and Competences
Aims
The Interuniversity Master's Degree Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century: Management and Research of the Complutense University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Madrid responds to an academic, research and professional demand for postgraduate training in the management and research contexts of the elements that are part of the cultural heritage.
Its objective is to introduce students to the methodology of research in the management of Cultural Heritage and knowledge of their own integral management, always from an interdisciplinary perspective including the social use of heritage goods, the impact of tourism on them, optimization of existing resources, the use of environmental impact studies and urban planning for their protection, the interpretation of research results and their dissemination, the design of sustainable management strategies, etc.
General, Transversal and Specific Competences
Through theoretical-practical courses, the PC21 Master covers the most current aspects of various disciplines in the areas of knowledge related to Cultural Heritage, its management and research, providing students with the tools and knowledge necessary to start in the research activity and professional, qualifying for:
- Identify the basic principles of Cultural Heritage, its management and research.
- Analyze the different management models used in the protection of cultural goods with a critical and proactive orientation.
- Contrast the current situation of the management of Cultural Heritage and address the proposal of new models of protection, research and professional activity.
- Distinguish between the different types of specific goods, especially the furniture, immovable and intangible, applying the appropriate management and research models for each of them.
- Identify and analyze the areas and contexts in which social initiatives are located or should be placed in favor of Cultural Heritage.
- Develop instruments to protect and safeguard Cultural Heritage.
- Assess the methods of conflict resolution between the different agents involved in Cultural Heritage.
- Solve problems interconnected with the different disciplines related to the management and investigation of Cultural Heritage.
- Manage the practical applications of ICT to the management and investigation of Cultural Heritage and have the ability to face specific use cases.
- Manage basic techniques to conduct surveys, mind maps, discussion groups or any other tool that allows to recognize the perception and the social imaginary regarding the Cultural Heritage and start research on it.
- Determine the keys to public research, exhibition evaluation and public evaluation techniques applied to the interpretation of Cultural Heritage.
- Identify heritage resources for cultural and economic development of the different regions..
- Organize and plan appropriate management systems for Cultural Heritage in each of its specialties.
- Appreciate, manage and start researching the instruments of urban planning to apply them to the protection of immovable goods and landscapes that have a heritage value.
- Interpret the international, national and regional legislation that regulates the promotion, safeguarding and dissemination of each type of Cultural Heritage.
- The writing of academic and scientific works.
- The design of research papers.
- The presentation and defense of research results.
