José Basilio Casanova Varela (Lugo, 1961), Doctor of Philosophy, is a Professor at the Faculty of Information Sciences of the UCM. He teaches the subjects of Contemporary Art and Audiovisual Text Theory. He is a professor of the Master's Degree in Psychoanalysis and Theory of Culture at the Faculty of Philosophy.
His lines of research are contemporary art, the theory of culture and the theory and analysis of audiovisual texts. He is the director, and previously deputy director, of the cultural magazine Trama y Fondo. He reading and theory of the text. He has published the books Rethinking Modern Art. From neoclassicism to Dadaism, Reading Hitchcock and The cinema in the cinema. Life in shadows He has published close to 50 articles on audiovisual artistic creativity. He has been part of the Complutense ATAD research group and is currently a member of the Madrid group as Transversal Laboratory Model: art, science, technology, society + sustainability for the Digital Agenda.
