Short Bio

GREGORIO MARTÍN-DE CASTRO is a Professor (Catedrático de Universidad) of Strategic Management and Business Sustainability at the Complutense University of Madrid. He holds a Ph. D. in Economics and Business Administration (2004) from the same university and a Postgraduate Diploma in Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital from IUEE-INSEAD (2001). He has been Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar in different universities and research centres such as RCC- Harvard University (2004-2005); MIoIR - University of Manchester (2009), Marshall School of Business- University of Southern California (2011, 2018); IoES - UCLA (2013, 2015); Edinburgh Business School- University of Edinburgh (2019), and Grossman Business School, The University of Vermont (2022). He was a member and co-founder of the Nonaka Centre, CUNEF Business School. 

He is the Coordinator of the UCM Management PhD. Program,  Faculty of Business & Economics, Complutense University of Madrid, and member of the European Research Project UNA RESIN.

He has been the President and VicePresident of the Business and Society Division of ACEDE- The Spanish Academy of Management from 2021-2024;   Associate Editor of JCR journals Business Strategy and the Environment,  Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility (BEER), and Business Research Quarterly (BRQ), and a member of the editorial boards of Industrial Marketing Management, and past  (2007-2019) member of the scientific committee of Innovar Journal.

His research has been included in the “List of Top Two Percent Scientists in the World” published by Prof. Ioannidis (Stanford University), in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.


RESEARCH ACTIVITY

He has published more than 30 papers indexed in SSCI-JCR, and 7 research monographs with editorials such as Palgrave McMillan, Marcial Pons, IGI, and Esic Editorial. He has participated as IP and member in more than 18 research grants for projects (National, Regional) and 1 EU Research Project UNA.RESIN, and presented more than 80 communications and conferences in Spanish and international academic meetings.

His latest book published with Cambridge University Press is coming soon! Entitled "Regenerative Strategies. Exploring New Sustainable Business Models to Face the Climate Emergency", has been co-authored with his colleague Prof. Javier Amores-Salvadó.

Four periods were accredited (3 research periods and one transference of research period -sexenios in Spanish) by the National Evaluation Commission of Research Activity (CNEAI)-ANECA.

Director of the UCM consolidated research group ECI: Strategic Management, Knowledge, Innovation and the Natural Environment.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

His main current interest is the fit between firm competitiveness/performance, and the natural environment. His main research objetives are: 

  • Exploring proactive Regenerative environmental strategies
  • Understanding the role environmental reputation and legitimacy in developing corporate environmentalism
  • Linking knowledge assets and intellectual capital to business sustainability.
  • Exploring the phenomenon of environmental entrepreneurship and internationalization.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

At Complutense University Prof. Martín-de Castro teaches courses, at undergraduate and graduate levels, of Introduction to Business Administration, Strategic Management, Management Research. He is a professor of two PhD Programs: Data Science, and Business Administration.

In other universities, he has been visiting professor in European Universities (Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, Pantheon 1, Sorbonne Paris, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, ESC Troyes) and Latin American (Universidad de Piura-Peru-, ESAN University- Peru-, UNM San Marcos-Peru-; Universidad de Cartagena- Colombia-; Universitad T. de Ambato - Ecuador-, Universidad Tres de Febrero - Argentina-; Universidad de la Habana- Cuba-).

Also, he is a teacher and instructor of the emerging Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability  (BASUS) of the UNA EUROPA Alliance (Alma Mater Studiorum U.Bologna (Italy), Pantheon 1 Sorbonne Paris (France), The University of Edinburgh (UK), KU Leuven (Belgium), Leiden U. (Netherlands), U. of Zurich (Swissland), Dublin University College (Ireland), Jagiellonian U. (Poland), Helsinki U. (Finland), Freie U.
