Personal
My live
I was born in Madrid in the spring of 1964. My father, originally from Baza in Granada, was a nuclear physicist, and my mother, also from Baza, was a pharmacist. We were a family of four children, and when I was nine years old, we all moved to Thurso on the north coast of Scotland. This relocation was due to my father's work in an experimental nuclear reactor, where he spent two years. During our time in Spain, we attended Colegio Decroly in Madrid, although I completed my baccalaureate studies at CEU, also in Madrid.
Initially, I had a strong desire to study Mathematics, but my father convinced me to pursue Physical Sciences instead. I am immensely grateful to him for this decision, as it allowed me to develop a background in physics, which, combined with my passion for mathematics, eventually led me to the field of Mathematical Physics and Applied Mathematics.
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Physics and completed my PhD in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics at Complutense University, my alma mater. During my academic journey, I returned to the UK for my PhD studies, including several doctoral stays at the University of Leeds and a post-doctoral fellowship of nearly two years at The Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford.
Unfortunately, I experienced the untimely loss of my mother and elder brother. Eventually, my father also passed away.
On a personal note, I am happily married to a wonderful woman who is also a physicist. We have two children whom I deeply love. I enjoy classical music and jazz, as well as watching movies and series. Football is not among my interests. I have a mastiff dog with whom I take long daily walks at the Casa de Campo in Madrid. Over the years, I have amassed a collection of around 500 specialized books on Physics and Mathematics. I am passionate about genealogy and have used resources like FamilySearch and the Bisbat de Girona archive to reconstruct the genealogy of my wife's hometown in the Alt Empordà county.
