INPROQUIMA participates in the Project Solar photo-Fenton remediation of real waters contaminated with Persistent Organic Pollutants. This project is funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Grant Agreement Nº 844209 Dr. Leandro Conte (member of INPROQUIMA) obtained a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Scholarship from the European Union, Individual Fellowships (Postdoctoral position). The Supervisor and  Principal Investigator  is Aurora Santos (director of INPROQUIMA GROUP). The project runs  for two years (Dec 2020-Nov 2022).

Lindane and other chlorinated organic carcinogen substances have been included in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and, they must be eliminated from the environment. The European Parliament (November 2016) reported highly contaminated sites with POPs in many member states that require immediate environmental remediation.

POPs resist natural degradation and, advanced treatments of affordable cost and environmentally friendly are required to abate them. An advantageous alternative from the economic and environmental perspective is solar energy integrated into the Advanced Oxidation Processes, mainly, the Solar photo-Fenton Process (SPFPs). This EU-funded SPFPs project main objective will be designed an innovative pilot-plant Solar Reactor to achieve the irreversible photo-Fenton degradation of POPs present in real contaminated waters.
