I am an environmental scientist by training, initially drawn to genetics and molecular biology during my research beginnings. During my doctoral studies and early postdoctoral years, my research focused on forest genomics and transcriptomics, studying how different tree species cope with various abiotic and biotic stresses. After specializing in bioinformatics, I decided to shift my research focus to immunology and animal health, applying my experience in omics data analysis to study the innate and adaptive immune systems of teleost fish, both under normal conditions and during perturbations caused by different pathogens, immunostimulants, or environmental conditions.
My research career has evolved in parallel with successive revolutions in massive DNA sequencing technologies, as well as other cutting-edge techniques that rely on it to study organisms or cells, such as single-cell or spatial omics. Currently, I lead two projects that aim to employ these techniques to dissect rainbow trout lymphopoiesis from a multi-omics perspective, identifying cell populations at different maturation stages and attempting to position them in their histological context. |
