OBJETIVOS:

Los principales objetivos de este grupo de investigación se centran en los procesos de exploración de nuevos yacimientos de materiales estratégicos, y en el estudio del impacto que la explotación de estos yacimientos puede tener en el medio ambiente, atendiendo a la mitigación de los efectos negativos (contaminación química y/o alteración física del medio) así como a su posible recuperación ambiental.

Por otro lado, se pretende desarrollar una línea de Geoquímica forense, encaminada al análisis geoquímico y mineralógico de muestras de suelos, aguas, etc, que permita aportar pruebas para la resolución de problemas planteados por la justicia.

Con este fin se están realizando investigaciones en elementos potencialmente tóxicos, tanto de origen natural como antropogénicos. Las aplicaciones de esta investigación pretenden realizar análisis de riesgos de estos elementos con el fin de poder plantear estrategias de reducción de la contaminación y de afectación a posibles grupos de riesgo.

Otro de los afanes del grupo es la generación de resultados con posibilidad de transferencia tanto a empresas como a la Sociedad.

Además, se pretende traspasar el conocimiento científico a los estudiantes, para formar a futuros investigadores y técnicos competentes y altamente capacitados en el estudio toxicológico del medio, por lo que además de la vertiente investigadora el Grupo presenta labor docente. 

 

The technological development we have achieved and the short-term goals for the use of "clean" energy sources are associated with a revival in the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources. The European Union acknowledges this as one of its priority areas of action when mineral resources are concerned. However, this anticipated increase in the extraction of metals, metalloids, and other mineral products generates large quantities of waste. These waste materials can pose a risk to both human health and ecosystems, as they may contain high concentrations of potentially toxic elements. These risks can be mitigated through the implementation of appropriate remediation measures.

The primary objectives of this research group focus on the exploration processes of new deposits of strategic materials and the study of the environmental impact that the exploitation of these deposits may have, as well as their possible remediation. This study includes the assessment of contaminant levels in soils and waters, as well as the investigation of their sources of origin and the processes by which they disperse. Furthermore, there is an intention to develop a forensic Geochemistry branch, aimed at the geochemical and mineralogical analysis of soil and water samples, etc., to provide evidence for the resolution of legal issues.

To achieve this goal, research is being conducted on potentially toxic elements, both of natural and anthropogenic origin. The applications of this research aim to assess the risks associated with these elements in order to propose pollution reduction strategies.
