Belmonte Avila, Juan Francisco
Juan Francisco Belmonte Avila es Profesor Ayudante Doctor (acreditado para la figura de Contratado Doctor) en el Departamento de Estudios Ingleses. Tras completar su Licenciatura en Filología Inglesa y un Máster Oficial en Literatura Comparada Europea en la Universidad de Murcia, obtuvo una beca predoctoral Fulbright “Fulbright Graduate Students Program” (2009/11) para cursar estudios de doctorado en Indiana University, Estados Unidos. Completó sus estudios de doctorado tras disfrutar de una beca de FPI en España (2011/15) y obtener la calificación de Cum laude en su tesis doctoral “Corporeality, identity and digital culture: gender and sexuality in video games”. Como parte de su formación predoctoral, ha realizado estancias en McGill University, Canadá, IT University de Copenhague, Dinamarca y la Universidad de Essex, Reino Unido. Dentro de su investigación postdoctoral cabe destacar la obtención de una beca de investigación postdoctoral Fulbright-SAAS para el curso 2019/20 y su pertenencia al grupo de investigación financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades “PGC2018-095393-B-I00 Temporalidades Queer en la Cultura Anglófona Contemporánea (Literatura, Cine y Videojuegos)”. Con anterioridad ha pertenecido a los proyectos FFI2008-05614 - Periferias de lo Queer: Representaciones, Corporealidades, Geografias (Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia), FFI2011-24211 - Periferias de lo Queer II: Espacio, Cuerpo, Cultura Material (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) y FFI2014-54391-P Periferias de lo Queer III: Transnacionalidades, Micropolíticas (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad). El Profesor Belmonte ha participado en la organización de los congresos internacionales 6th Languaging Diversity International Conference (Universidad de Zaragoza), 16th Culture + Power Conference (Universidad de Murcia) y 6th International Conference on the Philosophy of Computer Games. Su investigación se centra en el estudio de los discursos de identidad desde los Estudios Culturales, Game Studies, American Studies y Film Studies.
Juan Francisco Belmonte Avila is an Assistant Professor at the Department of English Studies. After completing his degree in English Studies and a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Murcia, he obtained a Fulbright Scholarship and spent two years at Indiana University as a PhD student. At the end of his time as a Fulbright scholar he obtained a government-funded grant (FPI) to complete his doctoral dissertation, titled “Corporeality, identity and digital culture: gender and sexuality in video games”. He has been a visiting researcher at international institutions such as McGill University, the IT University of Copenhagen and the University of Essex, and has received a postdoctoral Fulbright Scholarship for the academic year 2019/20 to carry out research at the University of Utah. He is, and has been, a member of four national research projects on the areas of Queer Theory, Cinema Studies, and Game Studies. Professor Belmonte has also been a member of the organizing committees of international conferences such as the 6th Languaging Diversity International Conference, the16th Culture + Power Conference, and the 6th International Conference on the Philosophy of Computer Games. He has published widely on Comparative Cultural Studies, Game Studies, American Studies, and Film Studies.
