Ruth Morona Arribas

Associate Professor

I started in neuroanatomy in the group of Agustín González Gallegos at the Faculty of Biology of the UCM with important influences from Dr. Luís Puelles about development in neuroembryology. Subsequently, I made stays at the CNRS in Paris and the Department of Genetics at the University of Minneapolis where I specialised in molecular biology techniques. My interests focus on the genoarchitectonic study of the development of prosencephalic structures. I am passionate about studying the phylogenomic relationships of key developmental genes in the nervous system and the evolution of different neuronal types. I am also interested in the ecology and adaptations of the models we use, as well as the development of technical improvements in our research and in animal welfare. The models used for these studies have been mainly fish and amphibians.

Teaching

My teaching, within the Department of Cell Biology, has been varied within the Biology degree, teaching subjects such as Instrumental Techniques, Histology, Specialised Experimental Biology, Cell Biology and lately it has focused on Comparative Organography, closely related to the evolutionary aspect of my research. Currently, I am also teaching subjects in the Masters in Neuroscience and Biosanitary Sciences that are closely related to my interests.
