Pilar Gago de Santos is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Economy, Structure and History at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Complutense University of Madrid. Since 2006 she has carried out research in the fields of transaction costs in public-private partnerships; tourism economics; public economics and cutback management, as well as on some of the main challenges developing economies are currently facing, such as fiscal federalism, energy and environment.

Among her current research projects we may single out the analysis of the perception of local residents towards tourism development and hence, tourism activity sustainability and cutback management strategies in public procurement in Spain (project funded by Spain's Fiscal Studies Institute; IEF 2018-2019). Regarding her teaching activity, Pilar Gago currently has courses on World Economics, Spanish Economics, Tourism Economics, the structure of the tourist market, and US domestic and foreign economic policies (in English).
