Manel Lacorte
Manel Lacorte (BA, Universitat de Barcelona; MA, University of Illinois at Chicago; Ph.D., University of Edinburgh, Scotland) is Senior Lecturer in Applied Hispanic Linguistics, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of the MA Programme in Hispanic Applied Linguistics at the University of Maryland, College Park. Manel Lacorte has also been Associate Director of the Spanish School in Middlebury College summer programmes (Vermont, VT) since 2009, where he teaches graduate courses in teaching of Spanish as a second language (L2) and coordinates the PArLAR research group, focused on the articulation of L2 programmes and L2 acquisition. Manel Lacorte's research focuses on pedagogical issues and teacher training in the field of Spanish as L2 and as a heritage language (HL); development of applied linguistics in the US and internationally, and the analysis of socio-political issues in the teaching and learning of L2 and HL. Manel Lacorte published articles in professional journals such as Language Teaching Research, Foreign Language Annals, Spanish in Context, Heritage Language Journal, Hispania, and Cultura & Educación, among others. He is co-author of Lingüística hispánica actual: guía didáctica y materiales de apoyo e Introducción a la lingüística hispánica actual: teoría y práctica (Routledge). Manel Lacorte edited or coedited several reference works for the field, like Lingüística aplicada del español (Arco Libros, 2007), Spanish in the United States and Other Contact Contexts: Sociolinguistics, Ideology and Pedagogy (Vervuert, 2009), The Routledge Handbook of Hispanic Applied Linguistics (Routledge, 2015), Multiliteracies Pedagogy and Language Learning: Teaching Spanish to Heritage Speakers (Longman, 2018), and Handbook of Spanish Language Teaching: Methodologies, resources and contexts in Spanish Language Teaching (Routledge, 2019). Manel Lacorte was guest editor of three special issues on teaching Spanish L2 and teaching Spanish in the US for the journals Miríada Hispánica (2013), Journal of Spanish Language Teaching (2014) and Revista Nebrija de Lingüística Aplicada (2020). Between 2004-2015, Manel Lacorte was co-editor (with Judy Liskin-Gasparro) of the collection Theory and Practice in Second Language Classroom Instruction (Pearson Education). He is now associate editor of the Journal of Spanish Language Teaching, and co-editor of the Routledge Spanish Language Handbook collection.
