Juana María Gil Ruiz
Professor and director of the Philosophy in Law Department at the University of Granada. President of the Law and Political Philosophy Spanish Society. She is currently holding the direction of the Research Group (SEJ 135) Human Rights and Guarantees; the Francisco Suárez Chair of Citizenship and Human Rights; and the direction of the prestigious journal which shares its name. Counsellor of the Andalusian Institute for Women Affairs and of the Directorate of Gender Violence and Victim Assistance. Partner with the Committee of Equality of the CGPJ and trainer at the Compulsory Course on Gender Equality for the Judiciary. Gil Ruiz was Vocal at the Andalusian Observatory of Gender Violence, and Vice-Dean of International Relationships and Research at the UGR.
A landmark in the Feminist Law Theory, she published, in 1995, Las Políticas de Igualdad en España: avances y retrocesos, very well-considered internationally. Author of multiple monographies and publications where Law, public policies and judicial and political thought is approached through a Feminist perspective. Her monograph Los diferentes rostros de la Violencia de Género is worth noticing. Her book Las Nuevas Técnicas Legislativas en España: los Informes de Evaluación de Impacto de Género was granted the Ángeles Durán Award of Scientific Innovation in Gender Studies. El Convenio de Estambul como marco de Derecho antisubordiscriminatorio, undoubtedly is a reference on evaluation and construction of a binding international commitment in Spain.
She has been awarded with influential honours throughout her professional career: Meridiana Award to Equality, Bandera de Andalucía, Mariana Pineda Award, Clara Campoamor Award, or the Government Sub-delegation Award for the defence of the constitutional values. Gil Ruiz was required by the UNO as an expert for the AECID Regional Program, in the roundtable on Legislative Techniques, and in the II Iberoamerican Summit “Gender Local Agendas”, in Aguascalientes (Mexico).
