José Luis Gamallo Barranco
A Bachelor of Geography and History specialising in Ancient History, his dissertation entitled La epigrafía flavia en Hispania was overseen by Dr. José Mª Blázquez Martínez.
Between 1982 and 1986, he took part in a project led by the Komission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik to produce the latest edition of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum. He worked out of the Madrid headquarters of the Deutsche Archäeologisches Institut on Hispanic epigraphy under the leadership of Dr. Armin U. Stylow.
He joined the Hispanic Epigraphic Archive Project created by Dr. Julio Mangas in 1986, helping to draw up the Hispania Epigraphica series from its first volume (HEp 1, 1989) and forming part of its Technical Board until 2001. From 2001 until now and under the leadership of Dr. Isabel Velázquez Soriano, he has been the Secretary of this series.
He was involved in creating the Hispania Epigraphica online database after a short period of preparation to learn how to operate this system with Kurt Schaller (Forschungsgesellschaft Wiener Stadtarchäologie) in Vienna in May 2005.
