Eduardo Vasco
The director and founder of the Noviembre Compañía de Teatro, Eduardo Vasco has worked on more than 500 theatrical and operatic stagings. He was the director of the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico from 2004 to 2011. He has directed more than twenty plays penned by Golden Age playwrights such as Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina, Cervantes, Rojas Zorrilla, etc., although he also has experience with international classics such as Shakespeare, Moliere and Mozart. He combines his passion for the classics with contemporary European authors such as Cocteau, Ibsen, Chekhov, Camus, Beckett, Orton and Müller, and national ones such as Yolanda Pallín, Borja Ortiz de Gondra, Ignacio del Moral and Dulce Chacón. He has been a professor at the Royal Higher College of Performing Arts in Madrid since 1996, where he has held the positions of Head of the Stage Direction Department and Deputy Director during different periods.
He holds a Doctorate in Theatre Studies and a Master’s in Performing Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a Degree in Stage Interpretation and Direction from the Royal Higher College of Performing Arts in Madrid. He completed his training as a director at the Amsterdam University of the Arts Academy of Theatre and Dance. He is a founding member of Spain’s Academia de las Artes Escénicas.
He has received numerous awards and distinctions for his performances including the Order of Civil Merit granted by His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, the 2014 Fuente de Castalia Award at the Clásicos Festival in Alcalá, and the Ágora Award at the Almagro Festival.
He has written two books on the history of theatre, both of which were published by Fundamentos: Ricardo Calvo, el actor y los clásicos (2017) y Francisco Morano: un actor a contracorriente (2018). He writes numerous articles for national newspapers and specialised industry magazines. His adaptations of classic texts have also been premièred and published by various publishing houses.
