Beatriz Gallardo Paúls
Beatriz Gallardo Paúls has been Professor of General Linguistics at the University of Valencia since 2009.
She was pioneer in the Hispanic field with her research on pragmatics and conversation analysis, both in unmarked everyday speech and in specific contexts (BOOKS: 1993: Lingüística perceptiva y conversación; 1996: Análisis conversacional y pragmática del receptor). Since 1998, the incorporation of this linguistic research into the field of language pathologies, especially aphasia, has been proposed; in this area of interest she directed the Corpus of Aphasic Language PerLA ("Perception, language and aphasia", which includes works on aphasia, Williams syndrome, Asperger syndrome, attention deficit and/or hyperactivity disorder, and Hemisphere injuries law), and developed communication guides aimed at family members and healthcare personnel who usually interact with aphasic speakers, and who often need minimal guidelines for action (Aphasia and conversation: the communication skills of the key player, Valencia: Tirant Lo Blanch, 2005).
Since 2013, she has changed her lines of interest and transferred her discourse analysis model to data from political discourse, especially in digital media; this shift is reflected in the creation of the PRODISNET research team (Discursive processes on the internet) and in publications such as Usos políticos del lenguaje (Anthropos 2014), Pseudopolítca: el discurso político en las redes sociales (University of Valencia 2016, co-authored with Salvador Enguix) and Tiempos de hipérbole: inestabilidad e interferencias en el discurso político (Tirant Lo Blanch 2018).
