Antonio Pizzo
Head Scientist of the Council for Scientific Research, since this year he has been director of the Spanish School of History and Archaeology in Rome-CSIC. Graduate in Lettere Classiche–Archeologia from the University of Siena and a PhD in Archaeology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He led numerous archaeological excavations (theatre and amphitheatre in Mérida, Contributa Iulia Ugultunia, Arco de Jano in Rome) and different research projects, and was chief scientist of the EEHAR Tusculum Project and several projects funded by the Spanish National Plan for Research on the technical analysis of Roman architecture and technological innovations implemented in different territories. He is a specialist in the disciplinary fields of Archaeology of Architecture, Archaeology of Construction, Topography and Urbanism of Ancient Cities, Methodology of Archaeological Research. He is one of the promoters and editors of the Construction Archaeology Series published in five volumes in Annexes of the Spanish Archaeology Archive. He published several monographs and articles in different specialised magazines on the technical-constructive aspects of Roman architecture in Hispania, and coordinated various volumes, among which are: Archaeology of Construction V. 5th International Workshop on the Archaeology of Roman Construction.
