La Escuela Complutense Africana (ECA) nació en junio de 2020, cuando aprobó su creación el Consejo de Gobierno, como iniciativa del Vicerrectorado de Relaciones Internacionales y Cooperación.
Son sus principales objetivos:
- Crear un espacio de cooperación universitaria entre España y África.
- Favorecer y fomentar el desarrollo de los países africanos desde el ámbito educativo, con el objetivo del fortalecimiento del fortalecimiento de sus capacidades institucionales.
La ECA articulará diversas actividades donde las comunidades educativas de ambos países se enriquezcan a través de la adquisición de conocimiento y experiencias conjuntas.
La Escuela Complutense Africana, a lo largo del año ofrecerá una serie de cursos de formación impartidos por profesorado de la UCM y de la universidad africana sede de cada edición, en torno a temáticas seleccionadas conjuntamente. Estos cursos podrán ser presenciales, virtuales o híbridos de ambas modalidades, e incluirán actividades complementarias de carácter práctico.
Además, la ECA promoverá otras actividades como programas de movilidad, redes de investigación, formación de posgrado o cualquier otro proyecto bilateral o internacional que contribuya a alcanzar sus objetivos.
Desde 2023 la ECA tiene un punto de atención en el campus central de la Universidad Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial, ubicado en la ciudad de Malabo, sede que acoge también el primer Observatorio del Español del Instituto Cervantes en el continente africano, gracias a un acuerdo al que ha llegado la Universidad Complutense con la emblemática institución pública para la promoción y enseñanza del español en el mundo.
La Universidad Complutense posee una larga trayectoria de trabajo y colaboración con África, donde mantiene acuerdos con una veintena de países, en algunos casos desde hace más de dos décadas. En la actualidad se está trabajando para cerrar nuevos convenios con distintos países del continente, con vistas a organizar en universidades locales futuras ediciones de la ECA y otras actividades conjuntas.

The Complutense African School (ECA) was born in June 2020, when the Governing Council approved its creation as an initiative of the Vice-Rectorate for International Relations and Cooperation.
Its main objectives are:
- To create a space for university cooperation between Spain and Africa.
- To favor and promote the development of African countries from the educational field, with the aim of strengthening their institutional capacities.
The ECA will organize various activities where the educational communities of both countries will be enriched through the acquisition of knowledge and joint experiences.
Throughout the year, the African Complutense School will offer a series of training courses taught by professors from UCM and the African university hosting each edition, on jointly selected topics. These courses may be face-to-face, virtual or hybrids of both modalities, and will include complementary activities of a practical nature.
In addition, ECA will promote other activities such as mobility programs, research networks, postgraduate training or any other bilateral or international project that contributes to achieving its objectives.
Since 2023, the ECA has an information desk on the central campus of the National University of Equatorial Guinea, located in the city of Malabo, which also hosts the first Spanish Observatory of the Cervantes Institute on the African continent, thanks to an agreement reached between the Complutense University and the emblematic public institution for the promotion and teaching of the Spanish language in the world.
The Complutense University has a long history of work and collaboration with Africa, where it has agreements with some twenty countries, in some cases for more than two decades. We are currently working to sign new agreements with different countries on the continent, with a view to organizing future editions of the ECA and other joint activities in local universities.
