My name is Andrea Iturbe Zúñiga, and I am currently undertaking a PhD in English Linguistics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I hold a degree in English Philology from the University of Salamanca. During my undergraduate studies, I spent a year at University College Dublin as part of the Erasmus exchange program. I also completed a Master of Arts with a specialization in Linguistics at Illinois State University, where I taught Spanish for two years.

I am currently researching pragmatic borrowing, specifically the interchange of words between Peninsular Spanish and English for pragmatic purposes, as observed in the use of neologisms on social media platforms. This research is being supervised by Dr. Carmen Maíz Arévalo.

I am also working as a teacher of Spanish for foreign students and English, balancing my teaching responsibilities with ongoing research. My teaching experience, both at Illinois State University and in my current role, sparked my interest in second language acquisition, which is another area of research I am passionate about. At the same time, my teaching further informs my research on how languages influence and borrow from one another in multilingual societies.
