Rhona Lohan

Rhona Lohan is a PhD candidate in English Linguistics at Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) under the supervision of Dr. Emma Dafouz-Milne.

She holds an MA in TESOL from the University of Birmingham (Distinction), and graduated with a BA in English & Italian Literature at University of Dublin. Furthermore, she was awarded a Fellow by the Higher Education Academy, UK.

Currently, she is working as an Instructor in Modern Languages and Scientific Investigation in ESIC University. She has been teaching in this university since she arrived in Spain in 2006 from Ireland.

Research

Her current research focus is on the impact of English-medium education in university settings. The research project she is doing will involve a comparative longitudinal study, approximately two years, on evaluating the proficiency level of English students achieved through either studying their bachelor’s degree in Spanish (L1) with ESP/EAP classes or in English with one EAP course(L2). She is a member of ICLHE and will be presenting in their upcoming conference in Maastricht in 2022. She has been involved in systematic reviews which have led to publications and presenting in conferences in other fields.
