Arezou Bakhtiari

My name is Arezou /ɑːrezuː/; it is a Persian name meaning like the noun of wish in English. Currently, I am a first-year PhD student at the UCM in Madrid. I have a master’s degree in English Linguistics from University of Tehran and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Shifting from engineering to linguistics may seem a bit strange, but I am so happy and pleased about this decision.

My supervisor’s name is Begoña Núñez Perucha and, for my PhD thesis, we are working on the notion of stance in academic discourse.

BEYOND LINGUISTICS

I am fond of travelling, particularly to the areas not well-known or popular by tourists. I am enthusiastic about theatre and I performed some plays on the stage. Dancing is another activity that I enjoy immensely. I do like cultural differences and believe that everybody deserves to have a happy life.
