Membrane Mechanics and Traslational Biophysics
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Francisco Monroy Muñoz
GENERAL RESEARCH OBJECTIVE OF THE GROUP
Our research focuses on the dynamics of biological processes at the cellular level (cell growth and division, motility, etc...) and at the molecular level (DNA adhesion, transcription and replication, etc...) through mechanical studies of the movements produced on membrane structures. Our interest ranges from living cells and native cell membranes (bacteria, red blood cells and stem cells) to model membranes (vesicles, liposomes and monolayers). Our methodological approach combines experiments (time resolution microscopy, scattering techniques, membrane rheology, physicochemical characterization, etc...), simulation by coarse-grained and Brownian dynamics techniques and theory (stochastic processes and continuous media mechanics).
