High Pressures: Study of Spectroscopic and Thermodynamic Properties

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR:  Valentín García Baonza and Mercedes Taravillo Corralo

GENERAL RESEARCH OBJECTIVE OF THE GROUP

Our group studies - from the experimental and theoretical point of view - the physical-chemical transformations that matter undergoes under extreme conditions of pressure and temperature. The experiments are carried out in anvil-type cells where we can generate pressures of up to tens of GPa (hundreds of thousands of atmospheres). The pressure-induced changes in the different systems are monitored with various spectroscopic techniques. Additionally we have the technology to carry out spectroscopic experiments from liquid nitrogen temperatures up to 1800 K.
