About us
The main goal of our research is the study of the cognitive processes and brain mechanisms involved in emotional processing and social cognition. ¿How do we decode the meaning of facial expressions of emotion? ¿How does our body react to emotionally meaningful stimuli? ¿What are the cues that guide automatic social judgments based on facial appearance?
We are also interested in how this basic scientific knowledge can be applied to explain and understand what happens in the minds of people who experience difficulties in their social and emotional lives, such as those diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
In our studies we employ the experimental procedures of cognitive psychology, measuring both behavior and physiology in response to emotionally meaningful stimuli and situations. Self-report, reaction time, eye movements, skin conductance, facial electromyography and electroencephalography are the main measurements we use to assess emotional reactions.
