My research interest has always been primarily focused on wetlands, studying ecological relationships between groups, particularly vertebrates, and connected to environmental conservation and management. The significant loss of wetland areas worldwide (Spain not being an exception) makes it urgent to search for solutions and alternatives, which must be supported by research. This would allow us to recount and analyse past mistakes, aiming to correct them in the present and prevent them in the future.
The objective of my doctoral thesis is to analyse the temporal evolution of aquatic and marshland birds throughout their different biological cycles in a specific geographical area. I will investigate the possibility of correlation with observed environmental changes, such as the availability, disappearance, transformation, or protection of certain wetlands. The chosen temporal period for this study ranges from 1973 to 2023, which coincides with my fieldwork.
